Are you starting to think about the festive season? For almost all of us, this time of year involves planning and, of course, spending. At Progressive Credit Union we are urging our members to consider their finance options. The most recent figures available from the ILCU show that in 2015 the average Christmas spend for individuals was €563. Some people will incur much more significant costs, depending on family size and other factors. Of all the consumers surveyed, 25% stated that the financial burden would negatively impact their Christmas. The longer we put off budgeting and planning for this time of year can have an impact on our financial choices, with some of us opting for more expensive options such as credit cards and very high interest loans. Regrettably, 12% of the consumers surveyed had either approached or considered approaching a money lender to fund their Christmas expenses.
